Erratum: SGDQN is Less Careful than Expected
The SGD-QN algorithm described in (Bordes et al., 2009) contains a subtle flaw that prevents it from reaching its design goals. Yet the flawed SGD-QN algorithm has worked well enough to be a winner of the first Pascal Large Scale Learning Challenge (Sonnenburg et al., 2008). This document clarifies the situation, proposes a corrected algorithm, and evaluates its performance.
متن کاملLess than Expected? How Media Cover Demonstration Turnout
Demonstration turnout is a crucial political resource for social movements. In this article, we investigate how mass media cover demonstration size. We develop a typology of turnout coverage and scrutinize the factors that drive turnout coverage. متن کاملIs the impact of childhood influenza vaccination less than expected: a transmission modelling study
BACKGROUND To reduce the burden of severe influenza, most industrialized countries target specific risk-groups with influenza vaccines, e.g. the elderly or individuals with comorbidities. Since children are the main spreaders, some countries have recently implemented childhood vaccination programs to reduce overall virus transmission and thereby influenza disease in the whole population. The in...
متن کاملTwins less frequent than expected among male births in risk averse populations.
Male twin gestations exhibit higher incidence of fetal morbidity and mortality than singleton gestations. From an evolutionary perspective, the relatively high rates of infant and child mortality among male twins born into threatening environments reduce the fitness of these gestations, making them more vulnerable to fetal loss. Women do not perceive choosing to spontaneously abort gestations a...
